Crazy Combo Concert Trailer

My piano students have a concert coming on Sunday, February 24. It's a special concert featuring only duets, trios and quartets. Over the past week or so I have been arranging ensemble practices with the students and I just may have pulled out my iPad mini to take a few quick videos along the way. I felt a project coming along, though I didn't quite know what it would be until last night.

Wait 'til you see this video, oh my gosh I can't believe I did this completely on my iPad mini using iMovie. I placed all of my video clips and added text to the trailer template. When my husband and I watched it for the first time I almost fell off the couch laughing. I am so excited for this concert!

Hooray for technology and a playful imagination. Have a great week everyone.

    1. You can totally do this Suzanne! And it is so easy on the iPad. I'm loving my mini because the quality of the video has improved a lot. Go get a coffee and a couple cookies and just play around until you get the hang of it. It was an 11 year old student who introduced me to the trailer templates. Fun fun fun!

  2. Anne, you inspire me - and confuse me! I had just about decided to go with an ultrabook instead of an iPad. But this was so fun... Thank you for posting on both your blogs.

    1. If you hear a little voice whispering "iPad" that's just me. Thanks for sending a note Rebecca, glad you liked it.

  4. That was brilliant. I bet your students are stoked to be in a film clip! I do not own an ipad or ultrabook but I guess one day will need to get one.

  5. What a brilliant trailer! I just loved it! And now I wish I didn't live on the other side of the world so that I could come and watch this recital. Now to find the iMovie function on my new iPad...

    1. Hmm...that makes me think it would be neat to learn how to stream a concert...hmmm. Anyway, you can buy iMovie in the app store for about $5. Have fun with your new iPad.

    1. Hi Cindy, this absolutely builds excitement! The background music is just part of the magic of the iMovie trailer template...I take no credit for that.

  7. That's awesome! And what a great way to get the students excited about performing in a concert! My teenage students - who are normally a little reluctant about performing - would love something like that for sure :)

  13. Hey Pianoanne,
You got me going and I took your trailer idea to another idea I had and my students are on to a new pursuit of playing more often in many places. See my trailer here.

I know, I copied, but all great ideas are copies.

  14. Anne- I 'discovered' you and your websites last summer while looking for information on composers to feature with my students in the Fall And I have been hooked ever since! This trailer was great....inspiring...I want to come to the concert just because I saw the trailer!! (a bit difficult as I live and teach at the far other side of the country) My students are also working on duets and rather than have a recital I am planning on recording them. We have an RMT recital in April so early March is too close.
I will be in Halifax this summer and would love to have a coffee with you if that is possible. Liz Reed (lizreed@shaw.ca)
